What is Powder Coating?

Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. Unlike traditional liquid paint, which is delivered via an evaporating solvent, powder coating is typically applied electrostatically and then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin." It is used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint.

Powder coating is valued for its environmental benefits, efficient use of materials and the high quality of the finished product.

What Can Be Powder Coated?

  • Automotive Parts

  • Household Appliances

  • Bicycle Frames

  • Architectural Aluminum

  • It can also be used on non-metallic substrates like plastics and medium-density fiberboard (MDF).

Steps in the Powder Coating Process:

  • Preparation
Cleaning the surface to remove oils, dirt, and other contaminants.

  • Application
Spraying the powder onto the prepared surface.

  • Curing
Heating the coated object in an oven to allow the powder to flow and cure.

Benefits Of Powder Coating

  • Durability: Provides a tougher finish than conventional paint, with resistance to chipping, scratching, and fading.

  • Environmental Impact: Contains no solvents and releases minimal amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

  • Efficiency: Overspray can be collected and reused, reducing waste.
